Irasburg's Definition of Student-Centered Learning
True Student-Centered learning occurs when students are given student/world learning intentions that are clear and relevant. They are primarily hands-on project-based explorations focussed on student choice and teacher guidance where knowledge is applied beyond the classroom. Authentic assessment occurs when students are involved in designing their own assessments and contribute to rubric design. Student-Centered learning allows reflection on not only the outcome, but the entire learning process and in a manner that could benefit the student in the future.
